Modeling of Deep Rolling as a Distortion Compensation Strategy during Profile Grinding

This paper analyzes the possibility to induce residual compressive stresses utilizing deep rolling in a long, slim steel workpiece that is profile ground and resembles linear guide rail. These intentionally caused at side surfaces of are intended counteract distortion due V-groove rail induced by grinding. A finite element model was prepared based on initial state workpiece. The amount respective depended load intensity duration process. experimental data regarding stress profiles process resulting were used validate simulation, so an adjustment or calibration thermometallurgical thermomechanical material possible. key findings numerical design appropriate strategies for potential induction, results, knowledge mechanical treatment rolling, successful modeling strategy.
